Funny Story by Emily Henry reviewed by Delia Duke
Okay, full confession: the spice fiend in me never thought I’d pick up an Emily Henry book. But I’m glad I did; otherwise, I would’ve missed seeing how a complicated story can be told with such clarity and heart.
I was juggling a dark romance audiobook and drafting an emotionally heavy story that hit a little too close to home, so I reached for her book as a palate cleanser. Best decision ever.
I won’t give spoilers, but let’s just say the whole roommate situation with your ex-fiancée’s new fiancée’s ex-boyfriend couldn’t be handled with more grace and maturity than most of us could manage on our best day. Dafne and Miles showed that being present for someone in the small moments matters more than the grand gestures.
Love doesn’t always crash through your door on a white horse. Sometimes it tiptoes in, grows quietly, and asks you to see beyond flaws and pretty faces.
Moral of the story, I immediately added more Emily Henry to my TBR. Turns out, what I crave just as much as spice is emotional depth and a relationship arc that lingers long after the story is over.
